Where To Begin?

pharm study

I just don’t know.

Today was the second pharmacology exam. Fifty questions, with some extra credit thrown in for good measure.

I really don’t know what to say.

Last week, PP told the class what chapters would be covered on the test. This section covered sixteen chapters, but the emphasis would be on four of them, along with the prototype drugs. The reasoning behind this was that the drugs covered in the those four chapters are frequently seen in the clinical setting. The remaining chapters we just had to know general concepts.

Sounds good, right?

The class for the most part studied and studied those four chapters. Learned the prototype drugs forwards and backwards. As for the general concepts, those chapters were just passing glances… maybe a once over on the notes.

Then came that exam.

Those four chapters we really had to know? Hardly on there. Instead, the test covered plenty of the chapters we just needed to know “general concepts.” Basically the opposite of what PP had told us.

When the hour was up, we all had the same thought:

“What the hell was that?”

Is pharmacology supposed to be the weeding class for nursing school? Why would you tell your students one thing, only to do the complete opposite? Yes, I’m disappointed, but I’m not really feeling one way or the other on it.

I just should have known.

If I have learned anything from this, it is take anything PP says with a grain of salt. I will not listen when I hear “focus on this for the test… this is going to be on the test.” Everything will be on the test.

The grades are not posted, and I’m not surprised. Apparently PP was very angry after running the scantrons and seeing the class scores. Questions may be thrown out, a curve may be needed. If anything, this exam has brought to light the problems we have been experiencing with this class… and its teacher. Can anything be done to change this? Will anything be done? Unless this program proves otherwise, I have zero faith it will.

Until then, I’ll be studying.
